„Wir halten Sie auf dem Laufenden“
As the new year is around the corner, Mr. Edwin Bolwerk, Moba's CEO, looks back on a special year. 2022 marked the year of Moba's 75th anniversary, a memorable occasion that we have celebrated with our customers and employees around the globe. There were also several challenges to face. However, Moba has had a fruitful year with the launch of vision detection systems that have led to safer egg products with higher profitability for our customers. And much more excitement is coming in 2023.
For two years, Covid-19 had the world in its grip. In 2022, slowly life as we knew it returned, as more Covid-19 measures came to an end. We could safely travel again and show our innovations at exhibitions like the IPPE and VIV Europe. Edwin: "It was great to meet so many of our customers face-to-face after two years in which most exhibitions were canceled. We are grateful so many of our valued customers took the time to visit us at the different shows around the globe."
No year is without challenges, and 2022 was no exception. The economy was still recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic when the war started in Europe. As a result, the grain price became much higher and our customers saw their costs rise faster than revenues. On top of that, there were avian influenza outbreaks—also known as bird flu—all around the globe, leaving a great impact on the egg industry. Yet, it seems that the prospects for 2023 are hopeful. Edwin: "In the recent period, we have seen a positive trend that suggests that our customers will have more breathing room in 2023. We have noticed a recovery of the economy in the American market and also in Asia. However, in some parts of the world the Covid-19 pandemic had a longer-lasting effect, especially in China, which to this day has travel restrictions."
Only by developing solutions that have added value for our customers can we take the egg industry to the next level. That is why we have established an Innovation Team that specifically focuses on making Moba machines even smarter, more reliable and more efficient.
Getting the most out of your eggs
The egg industry is a dynamic market, where demands like traceability, hygiene and animal welfare are constantly on egg producers' minds. "The times when an egg grader was only required to weigh an egg are long behind us," Edwin explains. "Our customers have a higher expectation of their equipment so that they can meet all the requirements of today's market. That is why innovation and implementing the latest technologies are so important. Only by developing solutions that have added value for our customers can we take the egg industry to the next level. That is why we have established an Innovation Team that specifically focuses on making Moba machines even smarter, more reliable and more efficient."
Enabling egg producers around the globe to provide the world with healthy and delicious eggs has been Moba's mission from the start. And key to this process is detection systems. That is why Moba introduced the Vision shell inspector to the American market in 2022: a new vision crack detector for which contact with the eggshell is no longer necessary. Edwin: "Through Artificial Intelligence, the vision crack can see the tiniest cracks that are not even visible to the human eye. To detect cracks, contact with the egg is no longer needed, reducing the risk of contamination. Furthermore, the cleaning procedures have been significantly simplified, which saves a lot of time."
"With detection systems, you can really make a difference," Edwin continues. "By using the latest technologies such as Artificial Intelligence as well as the multi-sensor, full-color cameras in the fourth generation of our Egg inspector, we can get more accurate results, remove dirty and leaking eggs early in the process and thereby increase food safety and ensure that our customers get the most out of their eggs." The Egg inspector40 even has a tool called the EggQualizer that makes it possible to set your own quality standard. This increases efficiency as higher detection rates are achieved and false rejects are reduced.
As traceability has become increasingly important in the egg industry, even being demanded by law in some countries, this will be a game-changer for our customers.
Bright future
Designing innovations that provide a complete solution for egg producers is what it is all about for Moba. "By listening to our customers and understanding what egg producers need from their equipment based on our years of experience in packing stations all around the globe, we can design and develop the right equipment so that our customers can constantly improve their business."
Edwin is excited about the future and believes that 2023 will be another great year for Moba. With innovations that will amaze the industry. "Currently an exciting new product is under development that will solve all traceability problems. It enables egg producers to include a 2D code on any egg carton, outer case, display or pallet. Wherever the eggs have been, it will be possible to effortlessly track the travel destinations of the eggs at any time with this technology. As traceability has become increasingly important in the egg industry, even being demanded by law in some countries, this will be a game-changer for our customers," Edwin concludes.
