All you need to know about Moba case packers

Achieving top efficiency with the MR10, MR12 and MR30

Moba equipment is packed with technology. In the May issue of Moba News, we explained more about Moba Autopack. Now it is time to take a closer look at a specific part of the automation process: packing cases and crates. In this article, we will tell more about our case packer family (MR10, MR12 and MR30), and in the upcoming issues of Moba News, we will zoom in on a few "hidden gems" in our case packers that make all the difference.

Case packer family

Once the eggs have been graded and put into consumer packs, the next step is to pack these into cases, crates, displays and shippers. The case packing process is considered to be one of the most labor-intensive activities in the packing station. To make it easier, case packers can be used either as the first step in automation (where manual handling is still possible) or as part of a complete automated packing station (where robotics are used in every part of the egg handling process).

By adding case packers to your operation, you can significantly reduce labor costs because robotics take over physically demanding human tasks, meaning you need fewer staff. These robotics enable you to quickly change products, thereby increasing capacity and efficiency. Food safety is also increased as automating manual processes improves the quality of packing. And finally, the MR case packers can be seamlessly integrated into the Moba total solution, which also makes functions such as tracking and tracing of cases possible.

Known for their reliability and ease of use, Moba's case packers are considered a great solution for all your packing needs in a packing station. With over 300 case packers installed worldwide, many of our customers have already discovered the benefits our case packer range has to offer. With case packing, each situation is unique as every egg producer has its own needs. That is why Moba robotics are designed to be easily adapted to your mix of products, volume and building to suit your requirements and budget.

For your case packing needs, Moba offers the MR10, MR12 and MR30. Your priorities regarding capacity, product flexibility and machine footprint determine which will be the right one for your packing station:

MR10

The MR10 Case Packer is designed to pack consumer packs and trays into large cases. Depending on patterns and the type of egg pack, the capacity of the MR10 varies from 25,000 to more than 40,000 eggs (110 cases) per hour.  The MR10 has a small footprint and can be connected "inline" directly behind an egg-grading machine's block of packing lanes or "offline" via Contiflow. When required, the MR10 is capable of turning individual consumer packs with the optional pack rotation unit to create more complex patterns and maximize flexibility.

MR30

The MR30 Case Packer cleverly combines all the capabilities of the MR10 while offering additional options for packing into displays and shippers, with the ability to place matching layer sheets. This makes the MR30 the most versatile solution in your packing station. Due to its precise pack placement, the MR30 can build up a pattern on a display/pallet. If the operator places a sleeve after the MR30 has placed the last pack, the equipment can make stacks up to 18 layers high at a high capacity. When handling displays with a pre-fitted sleeve or shippers, the MR30 is capable of packing up to 13 layers high.

A unique feature on the MR10 and MR30 is an optional tool called the "CBL-Booster". This is especially useful for the European market where 10p consumer packs are often packed in special CBL crates with a certain pattern. This tool forms the patterns efficiently and optimizes the capacity specifically for this pattern. Of Moba’s case packer family, only the MR10 and MR30 have this special option.

MR12

The MR12 is a Twin Case Packer—i.e. with two robots—that has been specially developed to pack consumer packs and trays into half and full cases. A special and unique feature of the MR12 is the ability to process two independent products based on patterns that are five or six eggs wide. It can pack all the patterns  from the MR10 but up to 5-6 eggs wide and without the possibility to form special patterns (like the CBL pattern). Combined with its small footprint and ability to fit directly behind the Omnia grading machine, it offers complete flexibility with maximum capacity. Using both channels on different grades makes it possible to achieve very high and constant throughput in relation to floor space. The total capacity of the MR12 is up to 65,000 eggs/hour.

The MR12 has been designed using the latest research on operator efficiency and is based on a (basic) frame and electrical cabinet that can be expanded with the optional modules. If customers want to use more functions later on, all they need to do is add or connect additional modules. Moba's production method (assembly line) for the MR12 is completely tuned to this modular concept, enabling us to build every customized MR12 in the shortest possible lead time.

                   test-1

The MR12 has all the advantages of the MR10 and also makes good use of the packing lane capacity on all pack/case types. Manual case packing limits the packing lane speed and consequently the grader speed, but the MR12 solves this. We have increased throughput by 50% without increasing the number of personnel. The MR12 performs consistently well with the complete range of egg packs and trays. Furthermore, the operator can perform a quick changeover in the same time as it takes to change the packing lane. This machine has met all my requirements. - Mr. Mark Davison, Ballygarvey Eggs -

In the next edition of Moba News, we will explain how the Flexgripper enables Moba case packers to place consumer packs and trays into very tight cases and crates efficiently at the highest capacity.
