« Nous vous tiendrons informés »
On October 9th, we celebrate World Egg Day! Why? To raise awareness of the many benefits of this versatile food and its importance in human nutrition. At Moba, we love eggs and our mission is to make sure that consumers all over the world can enjoy the most delicious and healthiest eggs possible.
At the IEC Conference in 1996, the idea was born to celebrate World Egg Day on the second Friday of October each year. Through the years, World Egg Day has become a phenomenon around the globe with countries, key players in the egg industry, and consumers celebrating and promoting the egg on this day.
Protein Powerhouse
What makes the egg so deserving of such a special day? For centuries, eggs have played a key role in feeding families around the world. No matter where you are in the world, be it in Australia or America, chances are it is part of the (consumer's) weekly diet. That is not surprising; the egg is of course delicious and versatile to use in the kitchen. Cooked, baked or scrambled; the possibilities are endless! However, there are more reasons why the egg should absolutely be on your grocery list. The egg has been recognized as an affordable protein powerhouse for many years. Protein is important for the development of the brain and muscles, and plays an important role in disease prevention. Still, the benefits of eating eggs are far more wide-ranging than protein alone.
Eggs are known as natures ‘vitamin pill’, containing the majority of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants required by the human body, such as vitamins A, B, iron and zinc. The egg is also one of the few foods that naturally contains vitamin D, a key component in building healthy bones and teeth. Eggs also contain the highest amount of choline in any natural food source, which is essential in memory and brain development.
Besides the many added health benefits of the egg, there are also sustainability credentials that make eggs a great choice in feeding the growing population. Eggs have a relatively small ecological footprint, and the egg industry puts a lot of time and energy into food safety. Therefore, eggs play a significant role in the eradication of malnutrition around the world thanks to their affordability and important nutrients.
