For the past nineteen years the Operations Department was left in the capable hands of Mr. Jos Fessl. In April 2019 Moba had to say goodbye to Jos: he will enjoy a well-deserved retirement. His successor is Mr. Richard Ruempol.
Richard is not a stranger to the poultry industry. “During my study Agricultural Technical Business I did an internship in the United States. The company I did my research for was a supplier for the poultry industry with a focus on climate controls. So it wasn’t exactly the egg industry, but it was the first time I came across egg grading and packaging machines. Not knowing that I would be here at Moba as Director Operations more than twenty years later.”
I remember being completely amazed by milking machines, tractors and other equipment.
It is not a big surprise that Richard eventually ended up at Moba. He always had a passion for agriculture in combination with technique. “That started when I was just a teenager. I never grew up on a farm, but many of my friends did. I really enjoyed helping them around the farm. I never had to sort eggs by hand, but I did do a lot of other chores like harvesting potatoes and milking cows.” Beside his interest in life on the farm, Richard always admired the machinery that comes with it. “I remember being completely amazed by milking machines, tractors and other equipment. They were so massive and impressive, I just wanted to know everything about them.” So for a young Richard it became clear where his future lay: in the manufacturing industry.
“In the first five years of my career I gained much experience in the manufacturing industry as a consultant/project manager, but I wanted more responsibility. I became Production Manager at a pharmaceutical company and after that Logistics & Assembly Manager at a company in the automotive industry, working in the Netherlands and China for some years. About nine years ago I ended up at Rademaker in Culemborg, where I was Director Operations. I was responsible for two machinery production plants (located in the Netherlands and Slovakia), including logistics, supply chain management, quality, technical work preparation and improvement projects. Rademaker also produces machines for the food industry, but instead of eggs they focus on dough (bread, pizzas, pies, cookies, etc.).”
I was really impressed by the modern machines and manufacturing techniques used internally by Moba. It was clear to me that Moba really invests in manufacturing.
A few years back Richard first came in contact with Moba. He was invited for a tour through the Moba factory in Barneveld. He was very impressed: “At that time the company I worked for wanted to invest in a new laser cutting machine. That was the reason why I visited Moba, a leading company in machinery in the Netherlands. And I was really impressed by the modern machines and manufacturing techniques used internally by Moba. It was clear to me that Moba really invests in manufacturing. What actually appealed to me was Moba’s commitment to produce every part of the equipment itself. I believe that if you keep manufacturing and R&D under one roof, you can get more efficiency out of your production and better designs from R&D to manufacture, because of direct and short lines between design and manufacturing.”
Richard decided to take a chance when the opportunity arose to apply at Moba for the position of Director Operations. “My first weeks here I was flooded with information. Shaking hands, learning all about the machines, the processes and the people who work here. It is a lot to take in. I do believe that I have an advantage, because I already have experience in the machinery industry. Of course, every company has its own way of working, but the processes are the same. So I can tap into my years of experience and use it in my new position.”
What I found very special in my first weeks was the positive energy and how proud and professional the employers are.
"My experience in the automotive industry will also be useful when I examine the challenges we will face within Moba Operations", Richard believes. “Moba has innovative plans to be more efficient, both in R&D and Operations. R&D’s developing strategy will make it possible to roll out LEAN projects within Operations (Manufacturing, Assembly and Supply Chain) to make sure we are able to manufacture and assemble the machines as efficiently as possible, to be ready for higher volumes and come to an even higher and stable quality level of our machines. The aim is to implement assembly lines for most of our machines. This is an assembly process in which a machine will be assembled in several stages and is moved from one stage to the next until the machine is ready for shipment at the end of the line. We already use this assembly process for our MR12 case packer. It will take some years to change to this process, but it is a major change. Not only for the assembly, but also for logistics, part manufacturing, our suppliers, quality and ICT. I believe that the greatest challenge lies here for me and my team for the coming years.”

I am responsible for the Operations Department and I would like to understand what is really happening and what the issues and challenges are. I want to be present on the floor, to be involved and see things for myself. I can’t make improvements by managing it all from my office. I need to see what is going on, so I can truly understand how things can be better. I can’t wait to help bring this company to the next level.”
