Supplying top-quality free-range eggs to supermarkets, wholesalers, and through the on-site store. That is the mission of Ellis Eggs, a family-owned business that works together with sustainable local farms to bring the finest and freshest free-range eggs to all parts of Wales and beyond. With the help of their Moba equipment, they grade and pack thousands of eggs daily for their own brand.
It all began over sixty years ago for the Ellis family, when the grandfather of the current owners started the business initially as a market garden, then pig rearing, then chicken farming and eventually a packing center as it is still today. At their packing station, Moba equipment is used to grade and pack all their eggs, as Ellis Eggs has been a Moba customer for over 35 years. Mr. Jason Ellis, the owner of the company, states: "We choose Moba equipment due to their long history within the egg industry and the reliability of their machines." Through the years, Ellis Eggs has invested in a Moba5000, which was at their old packing station, and when they relocated to their current site all the equipment was upgraded to an Omnia PX350 grader which handles all the eggs with the help of two MR12 robots and a tray washer. The packing center has accreditations with BEIC (Lion Quality), BRC grade A and RSPCA.
The 'Ellis Eggs' brand stands for ethical and sustainable farming with a focus on the environment. There are currently eleven family farms running in the Welsh countryside that work with Ellis Eggs. All these farms provide their laying hens with amazing homes, as Jason Ellis believes that "happy hens make the best eggs". The hens are hatched and stay in the hatchery until they are aged 16–17 weeks old. During their time in the hatchery, they are fed a nutritious balanced diet and receive all their vaccinations. The flocks of hens can roam free in the pastures or stay indoors if they prefer — it is entirely their choice.
We can always count on Moba's after-service, and the HelpDesk is available around the clock for support and advice over the phone.
The eggs from these laying hens arrive within hours at the Ellis Eggs packing station where they are all graded on weight and checked for any defects by Moba's detection systems. The eggs that do not meet the highest quality standard are not wasted, as Ellis Eggs finds them a new destination. They have partnered up with a company that regularly collects all the egg waste in liquid form and then transports it to their factory where they recycle the liquid egg into dog food. This is a great example of how Ellis Eggs is committed to growing its business while nurturing the environment.
Running the business would not be possible without reliable equipment. Jason is very happy with the performance of the installed Moba systems. "The machinery we have installed at our packing station is of good quality. There is nothing more important than keeping our business running and the Moba equipment is getting the job done. It allows us to be competitive with our eggs. We can always count on Moba's after-service, and the HelpDesk is available around the clock for support and advice over the phone. If needed, Moba can also remotely take over control to identify and fix the issue. So we know that the Moba team is there for us when we need them."
